Welcome to St Cadfan’s church, Tywyn. This is the “mother church" in the Ministry Ara of “Bro Ystumanner”. Because of the 11th century Norman structure and the stone with the oldest Welsh writing, it is visited by people from all over the world. It goes back to the sixth century when St Cadfan establishes his little hermitage and church after his arrival around 516 AD.

In 2016 we celebrated 1500 years since Cadfan and his friends arrived at Tywyn. They built the first church, probably in wattle and daub. Subsequent churches would have been built in wood and perhaps even in stone.

You are welcome to visit the church. It will be open daily from 8am to 5.30pm.
